Metals that are highly alloyed offer better mechanical properties, and their resistance to corrosion is significantly at an escalated level, especially if compared to more traditional stainless steel alloys. Reckoned to a highly alloyed metal, the 254 SMO Tube offers one of the best PREN values achieved by any austenitic stainless steel. Resistance to pitting is a property that very few alloys can offer. Specifically, the A213 UNS S31254 Seamless Tube has a high PREN Value, which stands to be greater than 42.5. Any stainless steel that has a PREN value of more than 38 is considered to have outstanding resistance to corrosion by pitting.

Alloy 254 High Pressure Tube also exhibits strength at a much higher degree in contrast to several traditional austenitic stainless steel alloys. Since the content of carbon in din 1.4547 Welded Tubes is lesser than 0.020%, the weldability of the alloy is very good. Most stainless steels that have a higher content of carbon and chromium in their alloy tend to form carbide precipitates, which would lead to an eventual decay of the material by intergranular corrosion. Hence, despite having a higher content of chromium, the lower percentage of carbon in the Sandvik 254 smo tubing alloy prevents intergranular corrosion.

In oilfields, the various types of equipment including the smo 254 ERW Tubes are exposed to sulfur. Sulfur is a highly corrosive residual element, and its deposition over time leads to pipe cracking. The 6mo EFW Tubing is resistant to sulfur. And, so in many oilfields, the use of tubo smo 254 prevents the occurrence of sulfide stress related corrosion cracking.
