Austenitic stainless steel alloys including grade 304, tend to make some of the best additions in the piping system. In the case of the ASTM A249 TP 304 Welded Stainless Steel Tube, this is true because the cost of the entire operation could be greatly reduced by the use of alloy 304 for its construction. The alloy is easily accessible across global markets and has mechanical properties that make the ASTM A249 Welded Stainless Steel Tubing material versatile enough to be used in varying operations including as a superheater, heat exchanger, boiler, or even condenser tubes.
If the production of said tubes is carried out under specification ASTM A249, there are certain requirements that need to be fulfilled for instance a Heat and product analysis to be conducted on the ASTM A249 Type 304 ERW Tubing. The need for a heat and product analysis is to determine the conformance of the chemistry to that particular grade. Another requirement under this specification is the heat treatment of ASME SA 249 TP 304 Tube, which is to be furnished keeping in mind the parameters for solution temperature and quenching method of grade 304. Since the ASME SA 249 TP 304 ERW Tube is to be exposed to different conditions in the field, they require tests to be conducted to understand their suitability.
These tests also check the conformance of the SA 249 TP 304 Material to the tensile properties. Generally, the tensile properties and hardness of the ASTM A249 TP304 tube are checked by studying the yield and tensile strength as well as the elongation, and Rockwell hardness number. In addition to checking the grain size of the astm a249 tp 304, tests such as a flattening test, flange test, tension test, hardness test, reverse bend test, as well as hydrostatic or nondestructive electric test, is carried out on the tubes.
