Seamless pipes, though expensive offer the benefit of being able to perform under high pressure that is almost 20% more than a welded pipe. The use of ASTM A790 UNS S32205 Seamless Pipe (Seamless and Welded pipe) is well suited to general applications, yet, the primary solution they provide is to stress related corrosion cracking. Conventional stainless steel alloys like grade 304 or even grade 316 tend to have trouble sustaining themselves in conditions that are conducive to stress corrosion cracking.
However, because the alloy of UNS S32205 Duplex Steel ASME SA790 Welded Pipe includes elements like molybdenum and nickel along with chromium as the primary alloyanyt, it suites applications that are prone to decay by stress related corrosion cracking. Apart from corrosion resistance, the uns s32205 pipe tends to have yield strength that is almost two times higher than conventional austenitic stainless steel alloys. According to the specification, the ASTM A790 Duplex Steel S32205 Seamless Pipes are checked for their elemental composition on the basis of a heat analysis.
Generally, most ASTM specifications have requirements that the component, for e.g. Duplex UNS S32205 Stainless Steel pipe must conform to the standard. These requirements also include tests.
