Duplex stainless steel alloys tend to have higher mechanical and corrosion resistance properties, especially if compared to austenitic alloys. For instance, the mechanical strength of ASTM A790 UNS S32750 Seamless Pipe (Seamless and Welded pipe) is almost twice that of austenitic steels. The excellent mechanical properties and outstanding corrosion resistance of the alloy have been attributed to its chemistry. The chemical composition of a super Duplex S32750 Seamless Pipe includes the addition of 25% chromium, 4% molybdenum, and 7% nickel.
This chemical composition is suited to several industries such as the chemical processing industry, petrochemical refineries, and seawater equipment. Despite its many interesting qualities, the property that stands out the most is that the ASTM A790 UNS S32750 Welded Pipe exhibits excellent resistance to chloride ion stress corrosion cracking. Ordinarily conventional stainless steel alloys are not able to combat issues relating to stress corrosion cracking. However, the mixed microstructure of the alloy in addition to the inclusion of chromium in the ASTM A790 UNS S32750 pipe very resistant to chloride ion stress corrosion cracking. Other important properties of the SA 790 UNS S32750 Tube include the alloy’s excellent resistance to issues such as pitting, crevice corrosion, and general corrosion.
