Industries that make use of heat exchangers require structural components that can withstand very elevated levels of heat. Because using heat exchangers involves very high temperatures, specifications such as ASTM B163 may be used as a guideline for creating superior quality Astm B163 Tube. Generally, stainless steel may be used for heat exchanger operations. However, the use of nickel as an Astm B163 Material for the construction of tubes is a long-term investment because nickel, and its alloys can withstand very high temperatures, without any adverse effects to either of its properties i.e. - corrosion or mechanical.
Two of the most common materials that are covered under the Astm B163 Specification include Monel 400 and Inconel 825. Out of both these alloys, the most heat resistant alloy is Inconel 825, or as manufacturers refer to it as Astm B163 Uns N08825. High creep strength and superior resistance to corrosion, the mechanical properties of this nickel alloy are vital for applications involving the transference of heat, including heat exchangers. On the other hand, Monel 400 or the Astm B163 Uns N04400 is an alloy that has high strength and is known to have good toughness across a broad temperature spectrum, making it a very useful alloy for heat exchanger applications.
A solid-solution alloy, it is possible to harden the Astm B 163 N04400 alloy via means of cold working. Cold working the alloy also improves the surface of these tubes, while exhibiting better dimensional stability. The specification calls for certain tests to be carried out on the ASTM B163 Seamless Tube. While the most common test carried out across several specifications is their chemical analysis, this particular specification requires the testing of the Astm B163-18 for its rounding procedure, Rockwell hardness, and tension. Furthermore, both the grain size, as well as the hardness conversion, are performed on the Astm B163-11.
