Often classified as an alloy that can be used across a wide temperature range, the Inconel 600 pipe is able to fulfil the obligations of both elevated temperatures as well as cryogenic temperatures. Most conventionally used austenitic stainless steel grades, as well as some carbon steel grades, aren’t able to handle the pressure of being used at extremely low temperatures.
This is because as opposed to Inconel 600 square pipe, these traditional steel grades are prone to failure once they reach the ductile to the brittle transition phase. In such an unfortunate even, these traditional steels are rendered useless and hence, should best be avoided for these applications. However, with regards to the Inconel 600 welded pipe, the alloy is well suited to be used down to a temperature as low as - 423°F. Which is why the Inconel 600 seamless pipes could be used in those industries, which are required to use cryogenic temperatures.
For instance, in the production of fuels fo rockets, liquified gases are often used. The temperatures of these gases such as hydrogen and oxygen are very low going to about −423.17 °F. Therefore they are classified as cryogenic substances and require special materials in their handling such as Alloy 600 pipes. Since the ASME SB167 UNS N06600 does not have any reaction with these either hydrogen or oxygen in liquified form. Moreover, the ASTM B167 UNS N06600 could also be used with common refrigerant gases such as freon or hydrogen sulfide in refrigeration properties. The ASTM B167 pipe could also be used in fields of cryosurgery and Cryoelectronics.
