Welded tubes are often preferred in comparison to their seamless counterparts, mainly because the cost of their production is lower. Though, the risk of cracking due to the use of a welded ASTM B626 Tubing at an elevated temperature is significantly higher. As a means of reducing such risks, welded tube manufacturers follow the instructions set by standards such as the ASTM B626. This standard, in particular, caters to metals whose composition includes nickel as well as nickel-cobalt chemistry.
Intended for use in general applications as both heat exchanger and condenser tubes, the ASTM B626 Hastelloy C22/C276 Welded Tube proves to be a good fit for heat-resisting purposes. The manufacture of the ASTM B626 UNS N10276 Welded Tube is from a flat-rolled alloy. The standard mentions an automatic welding process for the manufacture of these tubes. Unlike some alloys, the welding process of ASME SB 626 N06022 Tubing does not include a filler metal.
Moreover, the methods of furnishing the alloy per the specification are solution annealing as well as descaling. While solution annealing the ASTM B626 Welded Tube dissolves unspecified precipitates already in the material, descaling it ensures a smoother surface. By the use of both these processes, it is possible to minimize the longitudinal weld seam of the ASTM B626 Welded Tube, thus giving it the appearance of a seamless tube.
