While molybdenum-bearing grade 316 contains about 2% - 3% of the said element, grade 317 is an alloy that contains more than 3% of moly in its chemistry. Hence, the DIN 1.4438 schedule 40 pipe exhibits resistance to sensitization during welding operations.
Due to its low carbon content, the UNS S31703 ERW Pipe offers other properties such as higher creep strength, higher stress to rupture, along with no adverse effects to its tensile strength properties at elevated temperatures. In fact, the inclusion of higher levels of elements like chromium, molybdenum, and nickel in the SS 317L Welded Pipe brings an incline in its tensile strength. Although the alloy is a low carbon-containing alloy, the difference between 317 Vs 317L SS Pipe is that grade 317L, has an even lower content of carbon.
