Duplex stainless steel alloys contain very high levels of chromium in their alloy. When the primary alloyant in materials is chromium, and that too in a higher quantity, such as the EN ASTM Duplex Cold Drawn Seamless Tube For Heat Exchanger, the alloy forms a protective layer on its surface. This protective layer is a passivating oxide layer. This passivating layer on the SAF 2205 U Shaped Tube For Heat Exchanger Tubing is formed due to the reaction of the oxygen in the air and the chromium on the surface of the tubes.

Hence, these alloys have excellent resistance to corrosion by oxidation. Along with higher resistance to oxidation corrosion, the duplex stainless steel heat exchanger tubes have a yield strength which is almost two times higher than conventional austenitic stainless steels like grade 316 or grade 317. Because the material is strong, the thickness of the walls of the Duplex seamless tube for heat exchanger can be reduced. Generally, duplex stainless steel alloys tend to have a higher cost.
